Issues faced by women entrepreneurs in Saudi Arab. Govt is taking some steps but they are not solid and are not being implemented properly as well. Future in business for women in Saudi Arab.

2004 heralded an important event in the business history of Saudi Nation. A law was sanctioned which stated that women could start business ventures without male guardians. Previously ( even today) its not fairly easy for women to go out and work. The degree of freedom in public, particularly business, circles is very limited. But times are changing Arab world is now acknowledging the role of women in trade and commerce.

Further strengthening the stand of female population in business the monarchy has been taking some slow but solid steps in this direction. Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz Fund has been set up to help aspiring young women to start their own ventures. Many ladies have started benefiting form such opportunities. But their numbers are quite few. There is no mass movement in this direction and a revolution is far form happening.

The ministerial ruling that allows women to own companies also add that the company must employ and cater totally to women. Mindset of employees in government offices is also negative towards this trend. They tend to overlook or delay women lead startups and create difficulties. Such people are of opinion that they are protecting the society from the evils of a woman running and managing her own business. It will take time and effort for such absurd mentalities to erode away. We believe the glorious days for women entrepreneurs in Arab world will come in near future.

Unrest in Iran may lead to downfall of economy in Arab World

Were the polls rigged? God knows or Ahmadinejad’s men know the truth. A re-election is what the public lead by the opposition leaders demand. There is chaos in the capital. Major international powers are calling for a peaceful solution to the crisis. But the blogs and social networking sites are confirming multiple deaths due to police and Basiji Militia actions.

With Iraq already boiling for over six years and now Iran joining the boiling pot the region has become unstable. We were discussing improvements in Arab Market but the current tension does not seem to help undo the tide of recession. If the situation continues we will only see a further decline in economy. Being the two most important nations bordering the Arab world and having direct and intense trade relation with Arab nations.

Political unrest is bad for economy. The market looses the trust of investors. Foreign investors are difficult to retain under such circumstances. They need to be assured that their investments are going to be safe. But how are we going to do that when the people are fighting the government on the streets. Corruption has to be killed before we aim for a better nation not just a strong economy.

As the signs of revival appear in the horizon we are also about to witness positive news in the Arab Market. Recently one of the leading IT service providers of Saudi Arab, Al Falak Electronic Equipment and Supplies, has announced a massive investment scheme. They are looking for opportunities to invest in companies or acquire companies in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt and Jordan.

Ahmed Ashadawi, the president confirmed that they want to grow through acquisitions. ‘The new investments and acquisitions will be completed in the 2009-2010 period,’ he said. So things are pretty up in IT industry in Arab. May be its not a trend yet. But some companies are definitely doing well. We can even a rise in Recruitment of Engineers to cater to the growing needs. Others should follow the trend and go on a planned approach to gain market and develop expertise. Its not the time to sulk about the recession.
